The ITMF Power Management committee will provide a brief overview of the initiatives many large corporations are currently undertaking to decrease the power consumption of desktop computers. We will also address what the University community can do to maximize the efficiency of current resources and provide purchase and configuration guidance for new computing resources in the hope that these guidelines can be crafted into an enterprise-wide efficiency policy.

Any chance that you have heard phrases like these: "A trained workforce is critical to the success of any organization."; "I understand the need for training, but let's wait until the end of the fiscal year to see if we have extra funds."; "I would like to attend the training, but unfortunately I cannot be away from the office for that much time." We know the challenges, but are there any solutions? Our committee has endeavored to find out and you might be surprised at the results! We surveyed UGA, peer, and aspirant IT Directors and Coordinators to learn firsthand their ideas on how to establish and manage a consistent workforce preparedness / career development curriculum. We explored resources that are available for the support of a workforce preparedness / career development plan for IT professionals. Of course one of our major drivers in this exploration was looking for the greatest bang for the buck. Our committee would like to share with you what we have discovered.
